Caritas Church of The Holy Name of Mary (Caritas HNM) is a pastoral body of parish community whose task is to animate, coordinate, promote and witness charity with special accent on its pedagogical role. In other words, Caritas HNM not only helps the poorest within the church’s territory but also involve the whole parish community to live the commandment of love.
Over the last few decades, the territory has undergone rapid urban development, with the construction of more urban houses and the establishment of manufacturing plants. This development has attracted many people in search of job opportunities. Unfortunately, this urban transformation has also resulted in urban poverty for those left behind. The least educated, B40s, OKUs, single parents, and the sick are particularly affected. Moreover, family problems have contributed to an increase in substance abuse among the youth.
Caritas HNM works closely with diocese, other parishes, NGOs, government to help the needy.
Caritas HNM is a diverse community made up of volunteers from different ethnic backgrounds and ministries. They play a crucial role in the church by acting as intermediaries who listen to the needs and worries of those in need. These volunteers also investigate the root causes of poverty, conduct home visits to get a better understanding of the struggles of the people they serve and meet regularly to plan and figure out the best way to offer assistance. Through their unwavering dedication, they personify the merciful essence of the church.
