2nd Step: Judge

Spiritual Reflection

“He commanded and they were created; and he established them for ever and ever; he fixed their bounds and he set a law which cannot pass away”. – Psalm 148:5-6

God created this world, governed by a divine law to sustain us indefinitely. Humans need to understand and respect the boundaries and laws set by God to maintain the equilibrium and balance of the entire ecosystem. We should love and respect all creatures, including the tiniest, as they are part of the divine plan, contributing to the natural regenerations that sustain the earth and provide nourishment for all.

Unfortunately, in this world, we seem to be moving in the wrong direction. Materialism has become our priority. When faced with a decision between profitability and protecting the environment, the tendency is to prioritize profit. We will say, “lets be practical”, we need money to survive. The bosses in big corporation will say “we are a profit organisation; we are not a charity organisation”. Our education system often emphasized wealth accumulation, leaving us naïve about the law of nature and how to maintain the balanced, healthy planet for all living beings. We choose to ignore the scripture of “He fixed their bounds and he set a law which cannot pass away”. -Psalm 148:6

When rare earth is found in a gazetted protected rainforest, what will be the right decision of our leader? Is to clear the land for rare earth which will make our country prosper. It will attract lucrative foreign investment and create lot of jobs; people will be happy with lot of money. Or, to obey God’s command in Scriptures to protect our rainforest and give up the opportunity to prosper? If we lost the rainforest, we will have more flood and less clean water, the wildlife will lose their home, many species will die, the indigenous that depends on nature to survive will run out of food and resources, eventually our water bill will get more and more expensive too, shortage of water will affect healthcare, food security, our weather will get hotter and hotter, and life will not be easy.

What choice would Jesus make? Remember Jesus was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days, and the 3rd Temptation is in Mathew 4:8-10, “Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

3rd Step: Act
