Social Mission Groups

We work closely with a dedicated network of social mission groups: lay Catholics running missions that address education, welfare, health, and social justice; religious congregations carrying out charitable work as part of their vocation; and diocesan ministries focused on helping the poor. Each year, Caritas Penang provides solidarity funds to help these organizations run their programs and partners with them in shared volunteering initiatives.

Fr Julien Agape Learning Centre, Penang

Many children in the Macallum area face a variety of family challenges. The Fr. Julien Agape Learning Centre is there to support them through dedicated educational assistance and accompaniment. However, their mission extends far beyond the classroom, reaching out to actively walk alongside and uplift struggling families throughout the community.

Light of Shalom Society, Ipoh

Orang Asli children living deep within the forest face immense difficulties in accessing education. To bridge this gap, the Light of Shalom Society works alongside the Catholic Church to provide shelter, food, and educational assistance to more than 70 children.

Elderly

Little Sisters of The Poor - Home for the Aged, Penang

The Little Sisters of the Poor is a religious congregation whose core mission is to care for the elderly. In their home, seniors who lack family support are provided with a safe, loving environment where they are cared for by dedicated Sisters, staff, and volunteers.

Pusat Jagaan Orang-orang Tua (PKK) Simee, Ipoh

Founded in 1952 by the late Fr. Anthony Khaw to care for the homeless elderly, this home continues its vital mission today. It provides a safe haven for seniors who lack family support, welcoming and caring for them with dignity, regardless of their religion or background.

Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital

As part of the global mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, this hospital provides affordable cancer treatment to the community. Supported by the Church and generous community donations, it ensures that cancer patients and their caregivers receive comprehensive care and support.

Persatuan Kebajikan Haemodialisis St Anne, Bukit Mertajam

For those living in poverty, the cost of life-saving dialysis treatment for kidney failure is often out of reach. Formed in 2002 by parishioners of the Minor Basilica of St. Anne with the support of the Church, this ministry’s mission is to provide essential care and assistance for kidney patients from underprivileged and vulnerable backgrounds.

Pertubuhan Kebajikan HIV/AIDS Katolik (Mercy Home), Butterworth

Women and children are often the most vulnerable following an HIV diagnosis. Pertubuhan Kebajikan HIV/AIDS Katolik operates a dedicated shelter for those who have nowhere else to turn, providing a safe haven that empowers residents to protect their health and care for themselves.

Tenaganita

Migrants, refugees, women, and children frequently fall victim to exploitation, abuse, slavery, discrimination, and human trafficking. Founded in 1990, Tenaganita’s mission is to assist and protect these vulnerable communities by providing safe shelter, empowering victims and survivors, and advocating for the rights and dignity of all.

Persatuan Pembela Wanita Pulau Pinang

Women who are exploited, trafficked, vulnerable, or in crisis need immediate support to feel safe and begin healing. Pembela Wanita provides a transitional shelter for these women, actively assisting them at every step of their journey toward full recovery.

Worker rights

Low-income workers who face exploitation or unjust treatment from their employers often struggle to access legal assistance. To bridge this gap, we support Catholic advocates who represent these individuals in court, fighting to uphold their rights and inherent dignity.

Orang Asli mission

The Orang Asli are among our most marginalized communities. In the rural areas of Perak and Kelantan, the poorest individuals often lack access to basic education, healthcare, and welfare support. We actively support Catholic missions dedicated to assisting and faithfully accompanying these vulnerable indigenous communities.

NCSM- Caritas Homes of Hope

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) has a long history of providing education, care, and support services to those affected by cancer. Located in Ipoh, the NCSM-Caritas Homes of Hope is a collaborative initiative that offers complimentary accommodation, counseling, transportation, and nutritional support for cancer patients and their caregivers. The Catholic Church provides the premises and NCSM provides the services; together, we give hope to cancer patients.
