What is Caritas
Caritas is the charitable arm of the Roman Catholic Church. It is to spearhead the church’s social mission, to respond to humanitarian crisis, promote integral human development and advocate on the causes of poverty and violence.
“The Lord hears the cry of the poor.”
~ Job 34:20-28
The Church’s love for the poor . . . is a part of her constant tradition. This love is inspired by the Gospel of the Beatitudes, of the poverty of Jesus, and of his concern for the poor. (Catechism of the Catholic Church No. 2444)
Jesus said, ‘Just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to Me.‘ (Matthew 25:40), revealing to us that when we help the less fortunate, we are in reality helping Christ Jesus who is disguised in the poor.
Heaven clearly sees how we treat others, and we shall be rewarded accordingly, as Jesus also said, ‘The measure you give will be the measure you get.‘ (Matthew 7:2)
Let us not hold back then to extend aid and assistance, wherever and whenever we can.
