Over the last few decades, the area surrounding the Church of the Holy Name of Mary in Permatang Tinggi has undergone rapid urban development. The expansion of housing and manufacturing plants has attracted many seeking job opportunities.
Unfortunately, this rapid transformation has also deepened urban poverty for those left behind. The least educated, B40 communities, differently-abled individuals (OKU), single parents, and the sick are particularly vulnerable.
