Their project - Sharing Hope
During the COVID-19 lockdown, the parish launched “Sharing Hope” as a targeted project providing dry provisions to low-risk patients at local quarantine centers. As cases dropped and centers relocated, volunteers on the ground noticed a shifting crisis. The devastating economic effects of the Movement Control Order (MCO) had created a new wave of urban poor—people who had previously held stable jobs but had suddenly lost their primary source of income.
To care for this emerging group, the initiative evolved into Sharing Hope 2.0. This platform united the entire parish in outreach, drawing massive support from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), Agape Meal, the Ministry of the Poor, Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), and numerous individual parishioners. Together, dedicated teams purchase, prepare, and personally deliver essential provisions. Today, Sharing Hope collaborates with other Penang island parishes to swiftly investigate needs and dispatch food rations to any family in crisis, regardless of race or religion.
