KAMPAR, Perak: The Church of the Sacred Heart has a long history of caring and concern for the poor.

Recently, the parish, in a joint effort with a Catholic group from the KL Archdiocese, organised an outreach that benefitted 20 poor families from the vicinity of Kampar town.

On January 8, parish priest, Fr Simon Anand, and lay leader Daniel, the coordinator of the Tamil Apostolate, welcomed the seven adults who represented their families to receive the provisions. A total of some 700kgs of 17 different types of foodstuffs were distributed to the families. Those unable to be present will have the provisions delivered to their homes at a later date. Also present were 15 Catholics from Kuala Lumpur. They assisted in the food distribution and briefly mingled with those present. The 20 families consist of Catholics and also of other faiths.

The parish has been supporting some 48 needy families by providing monthly provisions to them. Fr Simon encouraged the KL Group to continue their mission, especially during the pandemic, to reach out to the marginalised in society, especially those living on the periphery.
